We are Europe returns for 2017, starting at Elevate festival in Graz from 01 to 05 March, 2017. The Austrian event invites Insomnia festival and Spanish Sónar and Sónar+D to curate artists and panels.
Insomnia brings some of the finest music from Northern-Europe to the Elevate line-up: Norwegian Jenny Hval will perform her superb, intimate music on the 02 March and TCF, aka Lars Holdhus, will deliver his ambient, IDM electronic sounds on the 04 March. On the same night, Insomnia festival also curated British duo Paranoid London and their reknowned, gritty Chicago-style acid house live-sets.
The Discourse program focuses on big gata, quantification and ethical issues when dealing with the use of algorithms and the power structures connected to it. Sónar+D and Insomnia curated panels in this topic, linked to the We are Europe 2017 main theme which is the role of culture in the city of tomorrow.
Here Insomnia presents “Controlling the Uncontrollable”. Aslak Holmberg from Njuorggán, member of the Saami Parliament in Finland, Josef Obermoser, director of the Austrian Crossroads Film festival and Inge Fiala, member of the Austrian Federal Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry, Environment and Water Management, will discuss the quantification of nature, ongoing climate change and resulting confrontations with indigenous peoples. More names will be announced soon to complete the discussion.
