Insomnia 2019 Music Program is Complete!
The fourth wave of artists to perform at Insomnia 2019 are here - thus the music program is complete!
Perera Elsewhere is Berlin based, UK born experimental electronic music producer Sasha Perera. Coined by some as ‘Doom-Folk’, her one-of-a-kind music has been used in Paolo Sorrentino’s feature film Loro, Ava Du Vernay’s Queen Sugar show and HBO’s Looking. Of Singalese and Portuguese decent, she is constantly searching for a place to exist as an artist, a space of musical, political, community and spiritual belonging. The thrill (and agony) of surfing waves of creativity, reflection, introversion and hedonism is embodied in her latest EP – The Thrill.
Hibotep is a Somali Artist, Fashion Designer, Filmaker, Dj, Producer and Original G of Kampala’s infamous Nyege Nyege crew. In all of her art Hibotep channels the divine and brings her audience towards introspection and when she gets on the decks she brings all this energy to the dancefloor, playing anything from arab trap to somali funk and old school LA hip hop together with her own productions and the tunes of her crew.
Jerico is a 22-year-old Haitian-Canadian DJ, producer, and vocalist, who’s quickly being recognized as one of Montreal’s most promising young artists. His energy behind the decks is a welcome jolt to any party, combining everything from Pan-African rhythms to up-to-the-minute underground club trax. As a producer, he combines these influences with his own synths, samples, and Haitian-Creole vocals to make club music that is truly personal and unique. 2019 will see the release of his third EP, RunThat, a sweat-drenched cut of four emotive dancefloor flexes that draw on his memories of Kompa dancing as a kid living in the ‘burbs outside of Montreal.
Sentimental Rave is a rough diamond. Her music oscillates between the violence of these kicks and her sensitivity. We find in her tracks the lonely and nocturnal wanderings of the current youth. DJ, producer, and self-taught photographer based in Saint Denis (Paris), she draws her inspiration from rave, gabber, experimental music and techno. It is a reflection of these thousands of night owls that are found in the warehouses of the suburbs of European cities and the glory days of the first raves.
Bear Bones Lay Low is a Venezuelan, now long-time based in Belgium, who creates psychedelic electronic sound by juxtaposing digital and analog sources. Using repetitive melodies and rhythms combined with dissonant sounds, BBLL wishes to induce a multilayered trance that allows solemn listening as well as ecstatic dancing in a mental space where the archaic meets the futuristic, where the earthly meets the cosmic.
Robert Curgenven is an Ireland-based, Australian-born artist producing albums, performances and installations. His work emphasizes physicality, our embodied response to sound and the correspondence with its architectural context, weather and physical production via air.At Insomnia, Robert will, together with Kat McDowall, present AGENESIS - A 1:1 relationship between sound and lighting: lights driven directly by the sound create a head-wrecking synaesthetic experience with the spontaneous production of colours and patterns which may or may not be there.
Richardas Norvila is an independent philosopher, artist & composer and psychotherapist who works and lives in Moscow. Norvila is a creative genius who has an endless trace of music behind him, mostly electronic, industrial, drone, ambient and abstract compositions. For Insomnia he will perform a 6 hour sleeping concert based on “Music for the Leap Year”- a project where he composed a musical piece each day for one year. We hope it will be a metaphysical experience for all.
