Insomnia is a festival for electronic music – which means music created with electronic contraptions. The genre is wide enough to cover music ranging from introverted artists hiding behind their computers to crowd pleasing acts, which might not even be suspected to be electronic music. The creative process within the genre is as varied as the music itself, and the festival hopes to sample a variety of it.

The festival has its base in Tromsø as the city was Norways capitol of house and techno when the genre emerged. It has been held each year since 2002.
