Biosphere (NO)

2016

Biosphere is Norway’s most important contribution to electronic music. Finding his start as part of Bel Canto in the ’80s, he soon emerged as a solo artist under the moniker Biosphere. His groundbreaking debut album, Micro Gravity (1991), had an immediate impact on the development of electronic music, fusing club rhythms with ambient soundscapes and samples taken from sci-fi movies.

Biosphere has been a prolific artist since then, releasing multiple albums and commissioned works, including a piece for Radio France commemorating the works of Jules Vern. His strength as an artist is in his ability to transition between the abstraction of ambient music and more rhythmic elements from club music. His last album, Departed Glories, was just released in September this year, perfect for celebrating at this year’s Insomnia Festival.
